The King of Tortillas

Last night the flatev team kicked off our New York trip in style at the New York Entrepreneurs & Startup Network’s Food & Beverage Networking Party. I say in style, because the event just so happened to be on the 60th floor of the Empire State Building – graciously hosted by our new friends at 1800Accountant. Just look at that view:

Alongside some other exciting startups disrupting the Food & Beverage space, we were quite happy to see that people couldn’t get enough of our booth. In general it went down like this:

  • People smelled that there was some good food cooking from afar
  • As they drew closer, they saw our tasty pork cooking and a veritable smorgasbord of accoutrements on offer
  • Once at the table, they realized that our own Fabian Sonderegger was pulling fresh tortillas out of a magical metal box
  • Finally one of our team explained to them that this, in fact, was not magic – it’s just flatev!

It was great to see so many people go through this thought progression, with each smile adding fuel to the flatev fire. Everyone was happy to help us out by participating in our brief survey, and the exit polling numbers look good – our tortillas are indeed far fresher and tastier than any available at your grocery store! Here’s what our table looked like just before it became hectic.

Wait, so what’s up with the King of Tortillas? ¿Quien es el rey? Well, the indefatigable Carlos Ruiz, our CEO, was crowned last night with a simple name tag rather than a bejeweled hat. He tirelessly spread the gospel of fresh tortillas, so concentrated on his mission that he didn’t even notice when I tried to capture one moment in immortality. However, the woman he was speaking to did notice:

So our first event in New York City came and went, and now we get to take a nice, relaxing break. Oh wait, except for the fact that in just a few hours we are going to be demoing our machine once again – this time at the Mexican Consulate in an event just for us! If you couldn’t come last night, or if you simply want to eat some more tacos, make sure to come on down!
