Northside: Music, Film, Innovation, and Tacos

Last week, we were invited to be a part of Brooklyn’s Northside Festival with some of the finest tech and innovation companies of Switzerland. Next to 1DropDiagnostics, Birdly, FotoKite, TimeRepublik, and Starmind, Northside attendees quickly learned that Heidi is now very much high-tech.

Many curious onlookers lined up to taste the difference of a flatev tortilla; we were honored to even have Tina Roth Eisenberg of SwissMiss drop by and give us her stamp of approval. After just a taste of the unique dessert tacos, many would agree that Carlos is, in fact, the “king of tortillas.”

Taco Tuesday Just Got Better…

Last night, we held our very first NYC Happy Hour at Projective Space. For many of our guests, it was their first time trying the “magical” tortilla. Our in-house robotics genius, Jonas, showed off the machine and let everyone taste the freshly baked tortillas and the variety of flavors it comes with. Throughout the night, the space was filled with delightful aromas of chili, cinnamon, and corn.

We’d like to thank everyone who made it out last night, and we’ll definitely be holding more Taco Tuesdays in the near future. If you missed a chance to taste the tacos, we’ll be giving out samples tomorrow (Thursday, May 14th) at PandoMonthly’s fireside chat featuring Sheila Lirio Marcelo, CEO of Care.com. You can RSVP here!

We hope to see you again soon!

Select USA Summit 2015

This past weekend, we attended the Select USA Summit in Washington D.C. to represent the Swiss delegation with the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland & Liechtenstein, Suzi LeVine.

President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry both discussed the role of Switzerland’s entrepreneurship and direct investments in the United States with the help of Ambassador LeVine.

From the beginning, we’ve always been proud of our diverse team at flatev and the unique perspectives each culture has to offer. During this summit, we learned a lot about the importance of globalization and the positive effects it has, not only in the U.S., but also around the world.

“We all do better when we grow together.” – John Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Mass Challenge UK

London calling!

We were invited by Mass Challenge UK to pitch and present flatev to aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups. Giving back is an important part of our team’s culture, and we were very humbled by the experience.

Furthermore, we were able to gain some insight about our machine and UK’s tortilla market — even in the UK, the market is growing very rapidly. We also found that chili and cinnamon were the favorite flavors of our tortillas. Sugar, spice, and everything nice!

NYC Roadshow: If You Can Make It There

We here at flatev had an amazing time in New York City, and even though we left just a few weeks ago we are already experiencing Big Apple withdrawal. In true startup fashion, we are always on the move. In fact, in the last few months we have been to Las Vegas, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and now Zurich. That being said, we loved our NYC adventure and our little apartment in Williamsburg, so much so that we are going to get back to New York by the end of the summer. Our time in Zurich will be spent finalizing our Research and Development, and once we’ve all agreed that we have the best machine possible, we will return! Once back, we’ll be rolling out our machines for a Pilot Project in kitchens across the city and beginning the exciting industrialization phase.

Ok, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. First, let’s take a walk down memory lane and recap our NYC escapades:

The King of Tortillas

Last night the flatev team kicked off our New York trip in style at the New York Entrepreneurs & Startup Network’s Food & Beverage Networking Party. I say in style, because the event just so happened to be on the 60th floor of the Empire State Building – graciously hosted by our new friends at 1800Accountant. Just look at that view:
