Taco Tuesday Just Got Better…

Last night, we held our very first NYC Happy Hour at Projective Space. For many of our guests, it was their first time trying the “magical” tortilla. Our in-house robotics genius, Jonas, showed off the machine and let everyone taste the freshly baked tortillas and the variety of flavors it comes with. Throughout the night, the space was filled with delightful aromas of chili, cinnamon, and corn.

We’d like to thank everyone who made it out last night, and we’ll definitely be holding more Taco Tuesdays in the near future. If you missed a chance to taste the tacos, we’ll be giving out samples tomorrow (Thursday, May 14th) at PandoMonthly’s fireside chat featuring Sheila Lirio Marcelo, CEO of Care.com. You can RSVP here!

We hope to see you again soon!

5 Things You Need to Host Your Own Cinco de Mayo Fiesta!

Or 5 Things You Need for the Ultimate Taco Tuesday

Historically, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory of the Battle of Puebla, not Mexico’s Independence Day (which is the common misconception).  For a holiday that is relatively quiet in Mexico, it’s grown to be a very popular holiday in the United States.

This year, it seems the stars have aligned since Cinco de Mayo also falls on a Taco Tuesday. We think that’s even more reason to celebrate, and we’re here to help you plan your very own Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

Here are the 5 essentials you need to host the best party:

1. Catch your friends’ attention with beautifully designed invitations by Paperless Post

We all know that the flakey “Maybe” to the dozens of Facebook invitations you get each day actually means “I’ll go if I have something better to do.” With Paperless Post, you can not only customize and choose from hundreds of unique and beautifully designed invitations, but you can also keep track of who has opened your invitation.

2. Alcohol, Delivered.

First things first, it’s no secret that Cinco de Mayo is also an excuse to get your drink on. Take the hassle and time of lugging cases of beer from the store out of the equation this year. With apps like Drizly and Swill, you can get your alcohol delivered. And if you want to plan the party right, check out Mini Bar’s new Event Planner tool. They’ll calculate how many bottles and cases you need, depending on the number of people attending and the number of hours the party will go on for. Hey, just because it’s a weeknight, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun.

3. A taste of Mexico with authentic tacos.

We know that there are countless of recipes you can choose from. However, our favorite taco filling is hands-down is the Al Pastor. It’s definitely a hard taste to authentically replicate, especially since most of us don’t have a vertical spit rotisserie at home. Thankfully, Mely Martinez from Mexico In My Kitchen offers a simple way for her readers to make al pastor with an oven or skillet. This is a recipe you won’t want to miss.

4. A drinking game or two…or just something to break the ice.

We’ve heard through the grapevine that an electrifying (literally) drinking game is gaining popularity throughout Mexico City.

We don’t recommend trying this at home. But we do recommend grabbing your smartphone and downloading the endlessly entertaining game: Heads Up! It’s easy to play, and it doesn’t require drinking (unless you won’t to implement your own drinking elements in there).

5. Music to get the party started!

8tracks offers the some of the best community-curated playlists out there. With just a few simple tags, you can find the best playlist to fit any mood or occasion. And of course, we’ve found a playlist for a Cinco de Mayo fiesta!
